Linking the Economic Recovery and Climate Action in South Africa
Time zones: 0800 EDT/1400 SAST

In October 2020, South Africa implemented its economic reconstruction and recovery plan to stimulate equitable and inclusive growth. Many of the measures identified could have positive benefits for the climate—helping South Africa better adapt to a changing climate and reduce emissions—while at the same time delivering lasting social and economic benefits.

Green recovery measures and stronger climate action can go together to cut greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience, and boost economic prosperity. Countries can further consider how these recovery measures can help to enhance their NDCs and meet the longer-term goals envisioned under the Paris Agreement, especially important in the leadup to COP26 in Glasgow in November.

Join World Resources Institute and key stakeholders on May 24 to discuss the economic recovery in South Africa, and how the implementation of greener and more sustainable measures can help to boost the economy while supporting a just transition towards net-zero emissions. The panel will take questions from the audience after the presentations.
